Young’s Gastro 2 Sweet Chilli Basa Fillets £2, Asda
GOOD quality fish for the price. Succulent and with a light coating of sweet chilli. We liked the no-fuss cooking but were expecting a spicy kick.
Verdict: Would have scored higher with abit more chilli
Our Best Ever Fishcake (2) £5, Marks & Spencer
CHUNKY numbers with a good crunchy coating and bursting with moist, fresh fish that cooked perfectly. But we think someone forgot to put any seasoning or cheese in the ones we tried.
Verdict: In desperate need of seasoning
The Best Lobster, Crayfish & British Crab Mac and Cheese (700g), £7, Morrisons
A GREAT mix of textures and flavours. We loved the crispy topping and perfectly cooked pasta and sauce, packed with a generous amount of tasty lobster.
Verdict: Delicious all-in-one meal The Tasty Catch Co Tempura Batter Fish Burgers (£1.39, pack of 2), Aldi
WITH claims that it tastes just like the Mcdonald’s version, Aldi’s is made using a 100% fish fillet seasoned in a crispy tempura batter coating. Verdict: A nice option for those missing takeaway treats
Finest Lemon Sole Goujons (200g)
£3.50, Tesco
COOKED evenly but we struggled to get any decent flavours from either the fish or breadcrumbs, which were supposed to have a subtle lemon and parsley flavour. So subtle we missed it.
Verdict: Bland
Smoked Haddock and Mature Cheddar Melting Middle Fishcakes (270g), £3, Co-op
GOOEY cheese with onions oozed out of the centre and there was a distinct haddock taste. Although the breadcrumb coating was thick and chewy, the centrepiece was packed with flavour.
Verdict: Cheesy and tasty
Taste the Difference Melt in the Middle Cod Fishcakes with Creamy Parsley Sauce (290g)
£2.50, Sainsbury’s
Scrumptious sauce and a crispy coating add texture to the delicately seasoned cod, which made for a light but filling fishcake. Verdict: Well balanced combo
Lighthouse Bay Haddock Goujons in Panko Crumb (200g) £1.99, Lidl
THE Japanese-style crumb made with white bread gave these a light-as-a-feather coating but they lacked flavour. Verdict: Boring
Birds Eye Seeded Artisan Style Fish Fillets (250g) £1.75, Sainsbury’s
DELICIOUSLY moist pollock encrusted with seven seeds and grains, such as pumpkin and quinoa, for a lovely crunchy coating.
Verdict: Fish with flair
