Police no longer fit for purpose

-

THE result is there for everyone to see. Our police have no power to deal effectively with the people who flaunt the rules. Meanwhile, those same people are putting the majority of responsible people’s lives at risk, and they are also continuing to put additional pressure on the NHS and the economy.

Why does a supposedly “civilised” society allow a minority of people to wreak so much havoc on the society at large? Fining them is useless because payment of the fines will more than likely be ignored, and will they be enforced? I doubt that.

Why isn’t their behaviour seen as what it is? Endangering people’s lives and livelihoods, and therefore serious enough to warrant imprisonment, albeit for a short time, but long enough to teach them a lesson.

The “freedom” to do whatever you want to in this country should be strictly limited to any action or actions which do not adversely affect one’s fellow citizens.

These people should be dealt with and treated with the disrespect they deserve.

Meanwhile, “policing by consent” is almost 200 years out of date and the continually escalating crime rate is testament to that.

Why doesn’t the Government give us a police force which can cope with the 21st century?

What is the use of citizens in police uniforms with insufficient power to make a difference?

The police are no longer fit for purpose and it is not their fault. Michael Pickering
