DECENT entries in all departments with 810 cattle and 2,016 sheep on offer. Only genuine registered purchasers and vendors are permitted to enter the market premises, under Covid rules. There is live streaming of sales in the main store ring.

There was another excellent entry of 535 store and breeding cattle which sold on an improved trade with plenty of highlights.

There was the opportunity to bunch cattle into lots of up to 10 animals which attracted a premium.

Steers sold to £1,185, heifers £1,100 and feeding bulls £950.

In the finished cattle section 106 head sold to 242p and

£1,646.

The average of 191p for the 46 heifers shows the level of trade.

The 106 OTM and feeding cows sold to 177p and £1,630 to average 114.7p, a shade lower than the previous week.

A few more calves forward at 63 in total with bulls to £335 and heifers £235.

Still nicely over 100 cows on offer with the average showing 3p drop. Plenty of very cold cows about including many suckler cows that had recently been weaned off their calves.

Top price was an Angus heifer at 31 Montbeliardehs, selling at 177p for Messrs Brough & Fox at Hurdlow. Better sorts still over 140p.

50 BLACK & WHITE AND EX-DAIRY COWS, AVERAGE 101.5P

Best cows still good to sell with British Friesians up to 140p and all the better sorts 130p. Big Holsteins 110-125p with leaner sorts 100-110p and plain cows under £1.
