£11 an hour to help with the Census in March

-

THE Office of National Statistics is looking to hire scores of temporary Census officers across Derbyshire.

The national count of every person and household in England and Wales takes place every 10 years, with work due to begin on the latest exercise from March.

The roles, which start at £11.22 per hour and offer flexible shifts, mainly involve visiting people and encouraging them to complete their Census 2021 online questionnaire.

An ONS spokesman said: “Our officers contribute to the overall success of the census.

“This involves visiting different properties in an assigned area, sometimes several times. The goal is to make people aware why the census is important and feed back information that keeps our address register up to date.”

Further information on the roles can be found at www. censusjobs.co.uk/the-rolesoverview/officer-roles/census-officer.

Census officers will be given a daily list of addresses which require follow-up visits because households have yet to complete their questionnaires.

They will help residents understand the importance of the census and assist them to complete their questionnaires, either on the doorstep or at completion events.

The ONS spokesman said the organisation was looking for “friendly faces” who are able to approach people from all walks of life.

He said: “You will enjoy being part of a close-knit and supportive team, plus you will be smartphone savvy and flexible about your working hours.

“You’re also comfortable with working by yourself, resilient and you’ve reliable access to transport.

“A different language could be useful.

“Either way, you’ve got great communications skills and the ability to build trust. It’s also vital that you stick to our processes and keep the information you collect confidential, safe and secure.”
