Fun in the park for families in Dales Easter Explorer

-

A FREE Easter event is taking place next week, which will see families hunting down secret markers in Ashbourne’s recreation ground.

Derbyshire Dales District Council is encouraging people to take up its Easter Explorer challenge on Wednesday, April 14, from 1pm until 3pm.

The event, aimed at primary and pre-school children and their parents, grandparents and guardians, invites people to head out with a map, seeking out hidden locations.

Janet Chadfield, from the district council’s sports development team, said: “Just come along, grab a map and away you go! Depending on how quick participants are it will take between 30-45 minutes to complete.

“Using a simple map of the park the aim is to find the points marked on the map and write down the name of the secret animal or colour depending on the course.

“No experience of map reading is necessary and Explorer is perfect for children as they can run around in a safe and friendly environment and will have a great adventure searching for the secret markers.”

The council’s outdoor exercise sessions will bounce back in Ashbourne from Tuesday.

Following another pause during the second coronavirus lockdown, the sessions run by the authority’s sports development team will restart on Tuesday mornings with a “very easy walk” from the recreation ground at 10am in accordance with Covid-secure guidelines. A Buggy Walk will also be taking place on Tuesday, from 11.30am, meeting in the leisure centre car park.

On Wednesdays, exercise classes will take place on the recreation ground, with strict social distancing.

People will also be able to jon in with a 45-minute cardio, tone and strengthen class at 9.30am, followed by a buggy bootcamp at 10.30am.

On Thursdays from 9.15am the council is offering a Couch to 5K nine-week programme, again in the recreation ground, and on the same day there will be a return for the Rusty Rackets tennis sessions at 10.30am.
