U16s sign off
ASHBOURNE Aztecs Under16s ended their time with the club with an emphatic 9-1 win over Anglesey Swifts at Mappleton.
They came at their opponents from the start and established a four-goal lead in the first 15 minutes..
Freddie Murphy opened the scoring with a fine free kick, and followed it with a penalty before Logan Cuthbert and Kyle Clowes increased the advantage.
Jake Walklet added two more either side of Cuthbert’s second and Will Heron drilled home just before half-time to make it 8-0.
The second half was a little calmer, Murphy completing his hat-trick, again from the spot, and the Swifts scored a deserved consolation.
A much improved Aztecs Lions under-11 performance saw the boys dig in, battle hard and produce some moments of real quality in their noncompetitive match against Winshill.
After both sides missed a number of chances, Winshill scored late in the first half but, after withstanding some pressure from their opponents, Aztecs got on the scoresheet on the stroke of half-time when Matthew Ackers delivered a wicked corner that the goalkeeper could only parry into the path of Will Costabile, who gobbled up the chance.
All square and chance for a well-earned breather.
The second half saw tackles fly in but the Aztecs forwards showed their quality when it mattered.
Costabile scored again when he burst through the middle and rounded the keeper.
Winshill scored again but
Lytton Pegg provided the moment of the match, latching on to a through ball and finishing with a dink over the keeper.
Late in the game, Noah Wood added another goal.
