Poet Jamie will be just the ticket for a festival favourite
AT last, Ashbourne opened up again and Festival tickets are on sale.
As time passes, and the rules relax, more events will be on sale.
One of the most popular features is Poetry In The Garden, which has been a Festival favourite for many years because of the combination of enjoying poetry and afternoon tea in the beautiful surroundings of Offcote Grange gardens.
Every year there is a guest poet and this time it is Derby-based performance poet, writer and lyricist Jamie Thrasivoulou who will be joined by local poets reading their own work.
Also starting in the first week of the 2021 Festival season is the Summer Art Exhibition, this time for two weeks.
Entries are welcome from professional, semi professional, amateur and student artists.
This is a great opportunity to show your skills and talent, especially if you have been creating work during the lockdowns.
The submission date this Saturday, May 29, Ashbourne Town Hall.
Details of submission terms and conditions are on the website www.ashbournefestival.org .
As usual, the Festival has invited artists to exhibit their work. This year’s invitees are Maggie Cullen, Carole Cluer, Geoff Diego Litherland, Nicki Dennett, Pat Shenstone and Sue Allanson, plus work from members of The Clayrooms.
In 2020 we were unable to hold an exhibition but were able to have an Art Trail around Ashbourne shops and businesses.
This year we plan to repeat that in August and September and hope to use the Summer Exhibition to select work for the trail. has the is at
More events will be added to the programme as the year progresses and you should keep an eye on the Festival website www.ashbournefestival.org for details, bookings and any changes.
Many events are on sale already via the website and from the Ashbourne Visitor Information Centre in the Town Hall.
Some are selling very quickly, like the Comedy Night in September, so do not miss the opportunity to book now.
● Changes may occur if national or local Covid restrictions change.
Ashbourne Festival organiser Tim Challans returns with some more news of the events we can look forward to this summer
