CHILDREN from Ashbourne’s three primary schools have been showcasing their works of art for a drawing competition organised as part of the construction of the town’s Pavilion in the Park.

Ashbourne-based building firm Enrok Construction and Ashbourne Recreation Ground Sports and Community Partnership invited pupils to use their imaginations to draw a picture showing how they would use the new pavilion.

There were more than 140 entries to the competition from children across the three schools.

Three local judges, Sarah Dines MP, former Mayor Sean Clayton and the partnership’s secretary Dave Wood took on the task of picking a winner in two age categories and first prize winners received a £25 Amazon or Disney Voucher and Family Swim Pass to Ashbourne Leisure Centre.

All runners-up won vouchers. A donation is also being made by Enrok to each school that got involved.

Mr Wood said: “It was a fun and enjoyable day of judging for us all. It made a nice change to get involved with something totally different.

“The standard of drawings was very good indeed, and I’m over the moon that these schools have taken an interest in our project. We’d like to build on this when the Pavilion opens and look forward to the children using their new open space as part of their sporting education.”

Winners in the category aged four to seven:

First place: Millie (7) who wowed the panel with her Glow in the Dark Computer Room.

Elliott (6) won second prize and five-year-old Georgia won third.

All the children were from Ashbourne Hilltop Primary and Nursery School.

Winners in the category aged 8 to 11

First place: Joshie from Ashbourne Primary School who won with his artistic cricket drawing.

Runners-up were Evan (9) who won second prize and Martha (11) winning third.

Evan and Martha are from Ashbourne Hilltop Primary and Nursery School.

All winning entries will be printed, framed and hold pride of place in the Pavilion when it opens in the autumn.
