No sick pay for workers unless they are double-jabbed
THE rules for sick pay for workers at digger giant JCB are set to change for anyone who has not taken up both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Workers who have to go into selfisolation due to coming into contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid will no longer get company sick pay if they are not doublejabbed.
The Rocester-based company is bringing in the new pay rules from August 16 after its summer shutdown.
Workers have been informed of the change in Covid rules in a memo sent to staff on the final day before the recess.
The memo also states that holidays cannot be claimed back for periods of self-isolation which coincide with annual JCB factory shutdowns.
Human resources director Martin Graves said: “Employees selfisolating, who are not double vaccinated, will not be paid company sick pay. Statutory sick pay will apply in these cases. Employees required to self-isolate as a consequence of a positive PCR test will continue to receive company sick pay.
“We will continue to monitor, review and communicate any formal changes to the requirements for selfisolation when they are published for England, Wales and Scotland as appropriate.”
It comes as self-isolation rules are changing in England from August 16.
It means those who are doublejabbed will no longer have to isolate if they come into contact with a positive case. The existing self-isolation rules will continue for anyone who is not doublejabbed.
The memo states: “If an employee is required to self-isolate upon returning to the UK from a country where there is a mandatory requirement prior to travel then absence from work will be classified as unauthorised and unpaid leave. “Should the status of the destination change during the travel period, and as a consequence, an employee is required to self-isolate on return to the UK, then the absence from work will be classified as authorised and unpaid leave. “Thank you for your continued support to ensure we remain safe at all times.”
