Villagers make a clean sweep of blitzing litter
MORE than 70 villagers have joined together to give their community a spring clean as part of a national campaign.

Hulland, Biggin and the surrounding countryside was blitzed as part of the Keep Britain Tidy Great British Spring Clean.
Alongside the villagers taking on the task over the last few months were staff from Aggregate Industries while staff and pupils from Hulland Ward Primary School will be taking on their own projects in the new term.
The scheme was spearheaded by seasoned litter campaigner Tim Sadler, who has previously rallied more than 3,000 people in Ashbourne to clean up the town’s streets.
Now leader of the Hulland Village Steering Group, he used his connections with
Keep Britain Tidy and Derbyshire Dales District Council to gather support for the Great British
Spring Clean in and around Hulland Ward.
He said: “Over the last three years Hulland Ward Parish Council, Biggin Parish and Hulland
Village have been enthusiastically involved in the Great British Spring Clean.
“Activity in and around Hulland has built over the years and the 2021 team is the largest group assembled - so far!
“My hope is that one day we will go to litter pick and come back having found nothing to pick up.”

Ward Parish Council said: “Joining as a community for activities such as these is not only good for our environment, it’s good for our mental and physical health too.
“Throughout the pandemic we have seen so many residents enjoying the local area and treading the pavements, we were delighted to welcome new friends to our village activities.”
