Awards prove firm really is home to Brilliant Ideas
INNOVATIVE inventions made by an Ashbourne company have been singled out for a series of awards.
Brilliant Ideas, which is based in Bradley, has five nominations across two industry award schemes for products it has made to enhance safety in the workplace.
Two of its products have been nominated for a Product Innovation of the Year Award in the British Construction Industry Awards – one is a strong and safe crane support mat system made from recycled aluminium and another is for a simple hole cover which quickly and safely covers hazards on construction sites.
The firm has also secured three shortlistings for other products in the Construction News Specialists Awards, across two categories.
Nominations are in the category for Equipment Specialist of the Year which recognises commitment to innovations in equipment health and safety and business excellence, and Innovation of the Year.
The two shortlisted products are for its Safety Net Recovery System, invented as a simple way of recovering a site operative who has fallen from height into a safety net, and for the firm’s SLAPP Clamp, a lightweight pallet-lifting device.
The products were developed by Chris Massey, the firm’s managing director, who also runs a sister company, Beresford’s Flooring.
His inventions are used by some of the leading names in industry, such as HS2, Kier, Balfour Beatty, Costain, Interserve, Willmott Dixon, FP Mccann and Bison Precast, to keep people safe when working on site.
He said: “We’re thrilled to bits that four of our products have caught the
judge’s eye to reach the shortlist across both of these industry awards – and that Brilliant Ideas has been recognised for our commitment to innovation.
“Every product we develop is about improving site safety and efficiencies and most have been created in response to accidents or near misses.
“These national awards are some of the most celebrated in construction and we are up against some other very good nominations.”
The awards are judged by an independent panel of expert judges, major contractors and industry figures.
The winners will be announced at the two awards ceremonies in London, in October.
