AS Derbyshire braces itself for an expected arrival of the Omicron variant, Covid-19 cases in the area remain stubbornly high.

Looking at the last seven days of data up to Monday, the most recent statistics available at the time of going to press, the urban Ashbourne South ward had seen 20 new cases, up to 42, bringing its rolling rate - measured per 100,000 population - to 559.5.

This means we are now back to one of the highest rates we have seen in the town during the pandemic, and a similar pattern is starting to emerge across the Derbyshire Dales.

The Ashbourne North ward has also seen a small increase in cases, with its rolling rate now sitting at 516.3 - up from 376.8 last week, and the district’s overall rate has risen from 386.6 to 444.6, with 322 total cases.

However, many areas surrounding Ashbourne are seeing small dips in the number of new cases being recorded.

Ambergate, Heage & Idridgehay saw a small rise, but Doveridge, Brailsford & Bradley stayed the same, and Mayfield, Rocester & Bramshall dropped very slightly.

Cheadle North, Alton & Kingsley, Ipstones, Warslow & Hamps Valley, Bakewell South, Youlgreave and Taddington and Hatton & Burnaston were among the areas seeing small decreases in the number of new cases.
