Legacy project fit for the Queen
Ashbourne Trefoil Guild
IN November members of Ashbourne Trefoil Guild gathered at Pax Hoh, a campsite at Hulland Ward owned by Girlguiding Derbyshire, to plant 30 saplings for the Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC), a tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
The QGC hopes to encourage the planting of trees to create a legacy in honour of the Queen, which will benefit future generations.
As well as providing an increased habitat for birds, insects and other wildlife, an increase in native trees will help in the fight against climate change, as they lock up carbon and help to reduce pollution.
The native trees, Rowan, Wild Cherry and Silver Birch, as well as stakes and tree guards, were provided by The Woodland Trust, together with instructions on planting and caring for the saplings.
The Chair of Ashbourne Trefoil Guild, Kath Cartlidge, who organised the tree planting said: “I hope they will be appreciated by future users of the campsite”.
