Charlie and her trio set to party

ALSTONEFIE­LD’S series of village hall concerts can finally get under way again this month, with the first of two planned February fixtures announced.

The Charlie Dore Trio, with Julian Littman and Gareth Huw Davies, will be appearing on Saturday, February 12, from 8pm, bringing an award-winning line-up of artists to get the season off to a swinging start.

Charlie Dore, one of the UK’S most respected songwriter­s, returns to the village, this time as a trio.

Best known for her 1990s hit Pilot of the Airwaves (the last track ever played on Radio Caroline), the Ivor Novello-nominated songwriter and multi-instrument­alist has had a multi-faceted career that includes, acting in film, TV and radio, comedy-improvisat­ion and compositio­n for film - as well as performing live with her band.

Her songs have been covered by artists including George Harrison (Fear of Flying), Tina Turner, Lisa Stansfied, Ricky Ross, Sheena Easton, Celine Dion, Black, UB40, Status Quo, Paul Carrack and Jimmy Nail (with the UK No 1 Ain’t No Doubt’). Her latest release, Like Animals, won her FATEA Female Artist of the Year award in 2021.

For this show, Charlie will be joined by Steeleye Span’s multi-instrument­alist, Julian Littman and by the much indemand Gareth Huw Davies, who adds five-string double bass, cello and vocals to the mix.

The event is part of Alstonefie­ld’s “In Concert” series, which offers a range of contempora­ry music genres such as folk, blues, Americana, and singersong­writers.
