Community cinema features emotional topic of dementia
ASHBOURNE Community Cinema organisers have announced details of the next screening to be held by the group, due to take place on Thursday, February 24.
Showing from 8pm, “The Father” brings the emotionally charged story of an older man dealing with his progressive dementia.
It follows how he deals with his condition, refusing all assistance from his daughter as he ages.
As he tries to make sense of his changing circumstances, he begins to doubt his loved ones, his own mind and even the fabric of his reality.
The Oscar-winning film is led by performances from Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Coleman and is created by writer-director Florian Zeller.
Ashbourne Community Cinema member Tim Challans said: “The Father presents a devastatingly empathetic portrayal of dementia and Hopkins’ performance in the film has been rated as the best of his career.
“This is the Ashbourne Community Cinema’s second presentation of 2022 and we are grateful for the continued support of St John’s Church for this venture and to our loyal audience who are joining in the community spirit of the screenings and influencing the choice of future films.
“We will soon be announcing the programme for spring and summer, so look out for them.”
The Father is being screened in St John’s Church in Buxton Hill and tickets are priced at £6, available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/ ashbourne-community-cinema or on the door.
