£500 jewellery prize donated to the fundraising dinner dance

-

A TOP prize of £500 worth of jewellery has been donated to the Shrovetide Dinner and Dance organisers, who are busy putting together a glittering spring event to raise funds for the game.

The second Shrovetide Dinner and Dance is due to take place on Saturday, April 2 at Osmaston Park and it will follow an inaugural event in 2019, which raised £15,000.

The event is attracting 550 guests and has already sold out and now the organiser, Laura Jones, is looking for further donations of raffle and auction prizes for the evening.

The prizes will be offered alongside a donation by CW Sellors, a supporter of the game, which recently donated a £500 gift voucher to spend in their Ashbourne store.

Laura said: “Shrovetide is a sacred part of our town’s heritage, but is becoming more and more expensive to maintain each year.

“Running costs include traffic management, emergency first aid and doctors on call, and the actual insurance to be able to play the game.

“The extent of these costs would surprise most people.

“While both Shrovetide committees, players and many other locals, work tirelessly to fund raise, protect and maintain the game, the dinner and dance will hopefully help contribute to their efforts.

“Without fundraising and kind contributions, the game may not be sustainable.”

All proceeds from the event will be split evenly between the main Shrovetide committee and the Players’ Committee.
