Entertainment to lift the spirits promised as music returns to the Empire
LOCAL SINGERS GET BACK ON SONG AT LINDA’S VARIETY NIGHT

AN evening of entertainment to lift the spirits is being promised at the Empire Ballroom in Ashbourne this Saturday night.
Singers young – and slightly older – will be coming together to perform a Variety Night at the venue in aid of Ashbourne Rotary Club’s chosen charities.
The cabaret style event has been organised by Ashbourne musician and singing teacher Linda Perry-smith and will feature Chameleon and Myforte choirs as well as vocal trio The Foxgloves, Linda’s students from QEGS and other special guests.
Linda has run Ashbourne-based youth choir, Myforte, since 2017. Because of Covid restrictions, this will be the first chance to perform in a long while for the nine to 18-yearolds who rehearse on Wednesdays at 5.30pm at Betty’s Sewing Shop in Cockayne Avenue.
Meanwhile, Linda started conducting for Osmaston-based Chameleon Choir last September when choirs were just beginning to get back together following the Covid pandemic.
“Lots of local singers were very keen to get back to singing together,” she said.
“The choir has grown and is such a great sound and a lovely group of people.
“Unfortunately we didn’t get to perform our Christmas concert due to Covid cases, so this is our first performance together as this new group.”
Linda is also a third of retro vocal trio The Foxgloves – the others being Louise Moss and Sharon Green.
“We will be singing some Andrews Sisters and Doris Day numbers
in close harmony and Rob Morton, who accompanies Chameleon Choir, will be doing a few turns,” explained Linda. “There’ll also be solos from
Linda Perry-smith
some of my amazing students from QEGS, as well as ex-student Mia Mitchell who is coming up from the Urdang Academy – a performing arts college in London – to sing for us.
“Everyone has been working hard to prepare their performances. I am so proud of them and excitied to put on this show,” she added. Tickets are £10 with under 18s free and are available from Fidler Taylor in Church Street, or directly from Linda and the entertainment starts at 7pm.
Said Linda: “Please do come and enjoy an evening of live, light-hearted entertainment, to lift the spirits – something we all could all do with right now.”
