WORK has started on building a new cluster of houses in Ashbourne, many of which are aimed at providing people with an affordable step onto the property ladder at the same time as being among the most energy-efficient in Derbyshire.

Demolition work has now finished on the site of the former Dove Service Station, in Mayfield Road, and last week representatives from Nottingham Community Housing Association and Derbyshire Dales District Council gathered at the site to celebrate the start of the construction phase.

The £7.8m affordable housing scheme will see 37 homes being built, offering a selection of one, two and three bedroom homes, 19 of which will be available for affordable rent and 18 sold for shared ownership.

The district council’s director of housing, Rob Cogings, said: “We are delighted to have worked in partnership with Nottingham Community Housing Association to deliver the most energy-efficient affordable housing scheme ever built here in the Derbyshire Dales.

“The scheme will meet a range of housing needs which are evident

on the council’s housing register. The environmental sustainability of the proposal will ensure this is one of the best performing environmental housing developments in the district.”

Working in partnership with Derbyshire Dales District Council, Nottingham Community Housing Association has planned a gas-free development.

The new homes will be built to EPC A energy rating, with high energy efficiency standards, airsource heat pumps and access to green space. All the properties will have their own private garden and parking.

Allan Fisher, director of development and assets at Nottingham Community Housing Association said: “These energy-efficient homes will be built to an EPC A standard to help residents reduce their energy bills and reduce our impact on the environment.”

The scheme, designed by architects Player Roberts Bell, is funded by contributions from Homes England and Nottingham Community Housing Association.

The association has partnered with Mypad for the build, which is expected to be complete by early next year. Early expressions of interest for the shared ownership properties can be made to Nottingham Community Housing Association by emailing nc0hasales@ncha.org. uk. Affordable rent homes will be let through Derbyshire Dales District Council. To find out more visit www.home-options.org
