Hunt and vintage tractor parade return

-

THOUSANDS of visitors are expected to descend on one of the area’s other popular agricultural events on Saturday for the 42nd Manifold Show.

The show, which returns after a two-year gap caused by the pandemic, will be back in the picturesque countryside between Ilam and Alstonefield.

A variety of local businesses have booked trade stands and craft stalls, there is also a picnic area served by a range of hot and cold food outlets, in addition to members catering and a public bar.

Entertainment will be provided from noon in the main arena and includes The Red Barrows; a sheep dog display; the annual vintage tractor parade and Manifold Valley Slow Tractor Race; Staffordshire Moorlands Hunt; Chase me Charlie triple bar jumping competition; grand parade of prize winners and trophy presentation, and terrier racing.

Show chairman Nik Searson said: “After over 42 years, the Manifold Valley Show still provides one of the best value days out in the district.

“This year we are delighted with the number of entries received so far for the livestock classes, and following on from the success of the young handler’s classes last year we have included them again this year and hope that more young people have a go at showing, whether it’s cattle, shire horses, light horse and ponies or the family dog; everyone is welcome and we look forward to catching up with fellow farmers and friends.”

Trade stand steward Bruce Daniel said: “One hundred trade stands have booked in with a wide range of items for sale, including several clothing stalls, agricultural suppliers and nurserymen.

“The spacious food area offers a choice of eats with a milk bar, coffee van, burger stalls and an ample bar.

“We have found it necessary to extend the craft tent due to heavy demand, which will make up for any disappointment caused by the lack of poultry this year due to bird flu.

“We continue to urge all visitors to car share wherever possible as parking is limited and the beautiful site is served by narrow roads; however, we are providing a large relaxation area, with plenty of food stalls and a bar to welcome you all.”

The Manifold Valley Agricultural Show takes place on Saturday, August 13, opening at 9am and closing at 5pm.

Prices are just £5 per adult and £2 per children aged between five and 12. Parking is free.

Entry is cash only on the gate as the mobile signal is not great in the area.
