More medals at MAD meet

ASHBOURNE and District Swimming Club’s 15 swimmers came up with 19 medals between them when they attended the MAD Autumn Open Meet at the Arc Leisure Centre in Matlock.

The team ranged from 10 to 18 and the medal haul included five gold, five silver and three bronze, along with six that were awarded for places between fourth and sixth.

The team set 21 personal bests between them.

Gold medals were won by

Ellie Harrison (12) for the 50m freestyle, 200m freestyle and 50m butterfly, Mckinley Cotton (13) with a PB in the 50m freestyle and for the 50m butterfly.

Isabella Margiotta (13) won silver medals in the 50m freestyle and breaststro­ke, plus a bronze in the 50m backstroke.

Sammy Poyser (13) won silver for the 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke and bronze in the 50m freestyle.

Owen Richard-jones (11) smashed his PB and won a bronze for the 100m breaststro­ke.

More medals were won by Daniel Margiotta (11) who was fourth in the 50m breaststro­ke and 50m butterfly.

The youngest swimmer, Jacob Brown (10), won a medal for fifth place in the 50m backstroke and set a PB for the 50m freestyle.

Elena Andrews (16) won medals for fifth in the 50m breaststro­ke and sixth place in the 200m freestyle.

Connie Howe (12) set a PB in the 50m breaststro­ke.

Scarlett Andrews (12) swam well, setting two PBS. Also setting at least two PBS were Sophie Cartlidge (11), Esme Hurst (16) and Bella Carolan (11), while Alex Wilson (11) swam well in the 50m breaststro­ke.

The eldest in the team, Ellie Torpey (18), won a medal for fourth place in the 200m freestyle.
