Four weeks for support cafe
FOUR weeks have swiftly passed since Tamworth’s new Helping Hand Cafe welcomed the community through its doors, with the Herald having the distinction of being inaugural guests.
The cafe has received an outpouring of support, quickly establishing itself as a cornerstone of community aid. Situated within Offa House, The Helping Hand Cafe has seamlessly integrated into the broader network of support services, extending its offerings to include evenings and weekends, making it even more accessible to those served.
In a gesture of gratitude to those who serve our community, they are offering a 10 per cent discount to emergency service personnel, armed forces members and veterans.
Furthermore, a suspended coffee program invites customers to purchase a £1.50 coffee for someone in need, fostering a culture of kindness and support.
With Easter on the horizon, the team are thrilled to unveil a series of free events available to all, detailed on their Facebook page. Highlights include performances by an Elvis impersonator, a drag cabaret, engaging author talks, and a special appearance by David Webb, famed for his role in Hi-de-Hi!. Interested attendees can secure their spots via Eventbrite or by scanning the QR code found on Facebook posters.
Lee Bates, the cafe’s manager, reflects on the journey: “It’s been an extraordinary experience, made possible by our committed team. The Helping Hand Cafe also plays a pivotal role in the new homelessness prevention initiative, offering free meals to individuals facing homelessness or escaping domestic violence. These efforts are supported by collaborations with Mid Mercia CAB, BetterWay Recovery, Home Start Tamworth, Number 8 Charity, and Tamworth Council’s housing teams, all working in unison to make a tangible impact. For assistance, the community can vist us at www. communitytogethercic.org, call 0808 175 4041, email (info@ communitytogethercic.org), or visit our front desk at Offa House.”
