- By DAN NEWBOULD News Reporter

DRAYTON Manor has announced new details about its “coolest” roller coaster yet, set to send shockwaves through its visitors.

The Wave is the newly transformed ride formerly known as Shockwave. The re-imagined ride will provide plenty of fun for thrill seeking families and is set to open at the park this spring.

The exciting new attraction has maintained many of Shockwave’s original features, meaning riders can still race up to high speeds of 53 mph, experiencing up to level 4 G-Force at 12 feet high.

Whatsmore, the reimagined Wave ride includes four inversions, unique zero-gravity roll and a double corkscrew structure.

With a brand new train featuring lap restraints designed to secure you in, the ride is now accessible to more ‘young thrillseekers’ than ever before thanks to its reduced 1.2m height restriction.

Guided by the legendary reps of Saltwater Soul Travel Co, visitors can enjoy the adrenaline-pumping world of surfing through a new experience, combining the most thrilling waves from around the world.

Victoria Lynn, managing director at Drayton Manor Resort said: ‘Shockwave has always been such a big part of Drayton Manor since opening nearly two decades ago and we’re so excited to see The Wave preserve all the iconic thrills and fun for more families and future generations to come.

“By adapting the hair-raising characteristics of our iconic Shockwave, we’re excited to welcome young fans, from as early as five to six years old, depending on height, to experience the UK’s most thrilling family ride.’

The new Wave is “just the start”, according to owners, as the new rollercoaster marks the beginning of Drayton Manor’s “biggest year ever”, with a new themed land set to open later in the year featuring themed attractions in this land, alongside new entertainment, the return of Terence to Thomas Land and much more.

Drayton Manor Resort is home to over 50 rides and attractions, including Europe’s only Thomas Land with 25 tot-friendly rides and mini-coasters, from Cranky’s Drop Tower to the Troublesome Trucks Runaway Coaster and the brand new baby flume ride for 2023, Thomas and Percy’s Submarine Splash.

Guests can also venture into the resort’s nautical-themed zone, Adventure Cove, home to the River Rapids, Wave Swinger, Tidal Towers, and family-thrill rides Shockwave and Stormforce 10.

In 2022, Drayton Manor Resort opened Vikings – a brand-new area home to four rides and attractions, with ancient and historic theming throughout.

The new area includes the spinning Disk’O Coaster, Thor, and familythrill ride, Loki, which is the UK’s first Nebulaz.

The zone also features a Viking training school, Sleipnir, and Jormungandr – a reimagined Drayton Manor Resort favourite which used to be the Buffalo Coaster.

Drayton Manor Resort also offers a four-star hotel on site, with 150 family rooms, including executive rooms, presidential rooms, 15 Thomas & Friends™ themed rooms and 10 Vikings themed hotel rooms.
