A MAN has been jailed for 28 years for a number of nonrecent sexual offences.

Peter Leigh Rogerson, aged 58, from Tamworth, abused the survivors before they bravely came forward.

In April 2019, police started work to gather evidence against Rogerson after the offences were reported to them. They worked over the next four years to support the survivors and put Rogerson before the court.

Following a 10-day trial in September 2023, he was found guilty at Stoke-onTrent Crown Court for a total of 24 sexual offences. These included: Ten counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, four counts of sexual assault of a child, five counts of indecent

AS you may have noticed, we are fully into local elections period now.

This means that the number of council meetings reduce for the next month or so, as focus is on the campaign.

This doesn’t mean work stops, however, it just means the public facing meetings reduce. All of the good stuff being worked on is still being delivered as I write, such as the imminent demolition of the buildings in the town centre as part of the Future High Streets Fund project. assault, two counts of causing to engage in sexual activity without consent and one count of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.

On Friday, April 5, he was given a 28-year prison sentence with a six-year extended license period. He was also made subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and put on the sex offenders’ register for life.

Detective Constable Alex Goldman, from Staffordshire Police’s public protection unit, said: “The survivors in this case have been paramount in making sure Rogerson answers to his crimes and is imprisoned for the longest possible time.

“Their bravery throughout this investigation has been incredible and I’d like to recognise everything they’ve

We do have a meeting of my cabinet tonight, but the only substantive item is excluded from the public.

As I’ve said before, this doesn’t mean there’s some kind of big secret. It’s just simply that the item being discussed is not yet at the stage to share with the public, and if we did that it could jeopardise our approach; as simple as that.

As we are into the election period, I would urge each and every one of you to read through the campaign literature that is delivered through done over the last four years to help us put a dangerous man behind bars and seek the toughest possible punishment.

“We are committed to pursuing perpetrators of violence, abuse and intimidation against women and girls (VAIWG) as robustly as possible and I hope this serves as an example of that.

“Officers will do everything within their power to bring those responsible to justice and to support survivors as much as possible.”

If you’re a survivor of sexual assault, get in touch with police by calling 101. They have a team of speciallytrained officers who can speak to you in confidence. If you prefer to report anonymously, you call also call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. your doors.

We spend a lot of our own time and money on making these, to ensure you have the relevant information to make an informed decision on who to vote for. But, a word of warning, be careful with what you read and compare and contrast.

The literature that I’ve seen from our main opposition, for example, just essentially pledges that they will deliver what we, the Local Conservatives, are already delivering. But why vote for the tribute act when you can simply keep the real thing?

We are already: Committed to a public facing front desk in the town centre, committed to events to support our businesses, delivering the £40M town centre regeneration, fighting for what is right for our town, such as against the use of hotels for anything other than tourism and against houses on our borders, looking after your taxpayer money, with our share of the council tax never increased by the maximum and in stark contrast to Labour-run bankrupt Birmingham.

We’re delivering and we want it to continue that way. With people satisfied with our town, in general, then it appears that the public feel that way too.

In other news, but in the spirit of ‘delivery’, I wanted to congratulate our town’s football team for their fantastic achievement of winning the league and securing promotion – the double, as that’s two promotions in two seasons.

We will be lighting the Castle up red in honour of their fantastic achievement – well done!
