GARDEN: When I last wrote in January, we were experiencing heavy rain, flooding and moody grey skies and here we are in April and nothing has changed! The garden is a tiresome challenge at present with the ground waterlogged so we are behind with work on the vegetable patch and on the borders. I have three lovely pots of red tulips and I wasn’t about to see those flattened by Storm Kathleen so we moved them to the car port for shelter – that is a first! However, come rain or shine there is plenty of activity with the wildlife. Blue tits are busy eyeing up the nest boxes and there are plenty of takers on the bird feeders with flocks of goldfinch, and this year for the first time siskins. We are now looking forward to the return of the swallows.

Saturday, 8 June. This great village tradition is in danger of not happening this year. We are in desperate need of volunteers to help with marquees and also during the day. We also need helpers to marshall and direct cars for payment and parking. Please contact Lorna Robinson on 07977 125959 or lornarobinson45@ gmail.com.

We are also looking for cake makers and serving volunteers. The village hall Community Coffee Shop will be running this again, this year.

So we can provide cake and hot drinks we are asking for cake donations. A lot come from our star bakers who regularly bake for the Monday morning Coffee Shop but for the fair we need a lot of cakes to satisfy demand! If you can bake a cake (or two!) that would be great. We also need volunteers for two hour shifts (9.30am until 4pm). It’s really great fun and we ensure volunteers have time to enjoy all the fun of the fair too. If you can only manage an hour that would still be really helpful. We would love to welcome you as part of this lovely team. Email your name and contact details to mabur64@outlook.com. If you have any wine or chocolate/sweets that could be donated for Tombola prizes then please contact Lorna to arrange collection or if easier, drop into the basket at the coffee shop (every Monday between 9am – 12 noon). All donations gratefully received. MURDER MYSTERY: Saturday, 20 April.
