MONACO IS SIMPLY THE BEST
THE Herculis meeting in Monaco in July has not only been judged the No.1 Diamond League meeting of 2018 but the best grand prix meet of the modern era.
The event on July 19-20 saw a world record in the 3000m steeplechase from Beatrice Chepkoech, a Diamond League record in the 400m by Shaunae Miller-Uibo and world leads in the men’s 200m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m steeplechase, high jump and women’s steeplechase and 400m, plus 14 national records.
The meeting scored 95985 on the IAAF’s system to beat Eugene into second place (95435) followed by Zurich, Brussels, London, Paris, Lausanne and Rabat.
What’s more, in an ‘all-time ranking’, the Monaco 2018 meeting pips Monaco’s 2015 event as the highest-quality grand prix, with Eugene 2015 third and Zurich from 2001 in fourth, followed by Paris 2015, Eugene 2017, Monaco 2014, Eugene 2018 and 2016 and Brussels 2014.
The figures squash the long-held belief that Zurich and Brussels are the premier
IAAF grand prix meets of the year.
