EIL­ISH McCOLGAN will be among the elites us­ing the new Po­lar Van­tage V for her train­ing and of­fered in­sight into her train­ing pro­gramme at the re­cent prod­uct launch in Wind­sor.

Hav­ing strug­gled with in­jury in the past, the Euro­pean 5000m sil­ver medal­list now logs around 45 miles a week but com­ple­ments that with cross train­ing.

“I used to run twice a day but be­cause of pre­vi­ous in­juries I can’t do that any more,” she said. “So in the evenings now I cross train. I used to think I had to do what ev­ery­one else was do­ing. I would be run­ning 75-80 miles a week and just con­stantly break­ing down. But ev­ery­one is dif­fer­ent. For what­ever rea­son, I couldn’t tol­er­ate that sort of mileage.

“If some­one had told me five years ago that you could run 45 miles a week and could break 15 min­utes for a 5km I’d be like ‘you’re crazy, that’s in­sane – there’s no way you could do that, it’s not enough’.

“More isn’t al­ways what’s needed.”
