VANTAGE V GIVES EILISH THE EDGE
EILISH McCOLGAN will be among the elites using the new Polar Vantage V for her training and offered insight into her training programme at the recent product launch in Windsor.
Having struggled with injury in the past, the European 5000m silver medallist now logs around 45 miles a week but complements that with cross training.
“I used to run twice a day but because of previous injuries I can’t do that any more,” she said. “So in the evenings now I cross train. I used to think I had to do what everyone else was doing. I would be running 75-80 miles a week and just constantly breaking down. But everyone is different. For whatever reason, I couldn’t tolerate that sort of mileage.
“If someone had told me five years ago that you could run 45 miles a week and could break 15 minutes for a 5km I’d be like ‘you’re crazy, that’s insane – there’s no way you could do that, it’s not enough’.
“More isn’t always what’s needed.”
