THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO PICK THE NO.1 CROSS-COUNTRY RUNNERS IN HISTORY
Your chance to vote for the greatest cross-country runners and races of all time
AS THE cross-country season gets under way, athletes around the country are reaching for their 15mm spikes, resurrecting their running gloves and bracing themselves for the hills and mud.
The winter begins in modest fashion with local league races, but soon builds with the British Athletics Cross Challenge series starting next month followed by the big pre-Christmas event – the European Championships in Tilburg.
The new year sees the Simplyhealth Great Edinburgh XCountry before the flurry of late-winter championships – the Inter-Counties, National and English Schools, to name but three.
As a climax to the season, we have what promises to be the most innovative and exciting World Cross Country Championships for years, too, when Aarhus stages the event around (and over) a Viking museum.
To get you in the mood, this week we open the voting for the greatest crosscountry runners in history. Over the next half-dozen pages there are five categories – best performance followed by the No.1 British man, British woman, international man and international woman.
