KENYAN run­ner Joseph Kiprono is safe and well after be­ing hit by a car and hos­pi­talised while run­ning a half­marathon in Colom­bia ear­lier this month.

The 30-year-old was lead­ing the race near the fin­ish in the city of Medellín when he was struck by a car that ig­nored a road clo­sure.

He was taken to hos­pi­tal with cuts and bruises but has since been dis­charged.

Kiprono won the race in 2015 but after be­ing un­able to fin­ish this time the vic­tory went to fel­low Kenyan Daniel Muindi Muteti in 63:45.

How­ever the race, which is staged in Colom­bia’s sec­ond city at 5000ft al­ti­tude in the An­des, re­ported the death of a 38-year-old run­ner, Juan Camilo Ar­boleda, who col­lapsed with heart prob­lems at the fin­ish.
