KENYAN runner Joseph Kiprono is safe and well after being hit by a car and hospitalised while running a halfmarathon in Colombia earlier this month.
The 30-year-old was leading the race near the finish in the city of Medellín when he was struck by a car that ignored a road closure.
He was taken to hospital with cuts and bruises but has since been discharged.
Kiprono won the race in 2015 but after being unable to finish this time the victory went to fellow Kenyan Daniel Muindi Muteti in 63:45.
However the race, which is staged in Colombia’s second city at 5000ft altitude in the Andes, reported the death of a 38-year-old runner, Juan Camilo Arboleda, who collapsed with heart problems at the finish.
