Sitting in the brand’s “energize” range of shoes, this model offers high levels of cushioning with a super springy feel.

Like many competitor brands, Brooks’ “DNA AMP” midsole material is polyurethane-based foam, but here it is wrapped in a TPU skin. This skin essentially controls some of the impact and potential energy return when you run and in doing so ensures the midsole returns to its original shape in a vertical manner. This provides an added spring-like feeling.

It works, and the shoe certainly has a bouncier feel to it that is good at any speed. It’s also very stable, something that can’t be said of other TPU-based cushioned shoes.

The upper uses a familiar knitted-mesh type construction, but this one really stands out. It has a premium feel to it and we found it held the foot exceptional well, having a sock-like fit especially around the midfoot. The heel lining is a faux-suede, with nice padding, and together with the knitted, stretch collar holds the foot beautifully around the heel.

The outsole uses a one piece, crystal rubber which so far has offered excellent durability with not the slightest sign of wear after over

150 miles.
