BOLT’S FOOTBALL FUTURE
USAIN BOLT’S new life as a footballer in Australia was in doubt this week after reports that he had been offered a contract with Central League Mariners were dismissed by the manager, Mike Mulvey, as “news to me”.
Bolt scored twice recently in a game but has struggled to become a regular in the team’s starting line-up.
Newspaper reports also suggest he has been offered a contract in the $150,000 range, which is much lower than he was hoping for.
Bolt (right) has been on trial with the Australian club for the past couple of months but in that time has turned down an offer from Maltese Premier League champions Valletta.
Bolt’s agent Ricky Simms says it is one of several offers the world sprints record-holder has had.
Previously, Bolt has enjoyed spells on trial at Borussia Dortmund in Germany, Mamelodi Sundowns FC in South Africa and Norwegian club Stromsgodset.
