COM­MON­WEALTH sprint hur­dles cham­pion Lorna Boothe (right), British Ath­let­ics para ath­let­ics head coach Paula Dunn and five-time Olympic race walker Chris Mad­docks were among those recog­nised in the New Year’s Hon­ours list over the fes­tive pe­riod.

Boothe won Com­mon­wealth gold in 1978 and rep­re­sented Britain at two Olympics be­fore mov­ing into team man­age­ment and coach­ing. She re­ceived an MBE along with Dunn, who in ad­di­tion to her cur­rent para team role was one of Britain’s lead­ing sprint­ers in the 1980s and 1990s.

Mad­docks, who still holds the UK 50km walk record, earned a BEM for ser­vices to ath­let­ics along with John Mes­sum, Wil­liam Rus­sell, Sophia Warner and Mairi Le­vack, while Roger Blades re­ceived an MBE for ser­vices to ath­let­ics and school sport.
