In Venice, as with Italy as a whole, it can be difficult to find a gay bar so if you are looking for a party atmosphere, visit during the city’s Carnival. It dates back to the Middle Ages, with this year’s festivities running from 16 February to 5 March. You’ll find people dressed in costumes and masks more elaborate than anything on RUPAUL’s Drag Race. There are boat parades, food stalls and plenty of masked balls for those light on their feet.
