STI diagnoses remain high
Public Health England has revealed that rates of STIs in young people are still high: one is now being diagnosed every four minutes. Last year, there were more than 144,000 cases of chlamydia and gonorrhoea in people aged between 15 and 24, and, worryingly, some of these infections are becoming resistant to antibiotics. While PrEP has been instrumental in reducing HIV infections, it has no impact on other STIs. As a result, PHE has launched the Protect Against STIs, campaign, urging everyone to think about using condoms and practise safe sex.
