ATTITUDE 25TH ANNIVERSARY
Our milestone- marking party
Some people don’t like to acknowledge their birthday, the incessant tick- tocking of Father Time. Here at Attitude, we couldn’t be happier to scream our age from the rooftop as we celebrated our 25th anniversary last month — quarter of a century of being a loud, proud, provocative voice on the LGBTQ landscape since first hitting the shelves in May 1994.
Pulling out all the stops, we managed to find the perfect, if unlikely, party spot for our oh- so- gay soirée: the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The queers were most definitely here as we gave Westminster’s historic Locarno suite a temporary rainbowcoloured makeover, as part of the GREAT Britain Campaign.
We presume that not quite so many fierce, f abulous drag queens have passed through those doors before.
An eclectic array of guests, friends, family, and allies raised a glass ( or seven) of Digby sparkling wine and Slingsby cocktail magic in honour of our milestone moment. Gathered were Minister for Women & Equalities and Defence Secretary Penny Mordaunt, human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell, former Olympic swimmer Mark Foster,
BBC News LGBT correspondent Ben Hunte, Emily Thornberry MP and... Sinitta ( minus outfit fashioned from palm leaves).
Performances from Britain’s Got Talent star Ronan Parke, indie band Bang Bang Romeo and The London Gay Men’s Chorus hit all the right notes for an evening that really was pitch- perfect.
So, here’s to the next 25 years. Once the hangover has subsided, of course.
