We love Mind Games

-

I’m having a lot of feelings this month.

Billy Porter just came on my podcast, A Gay and A Non Gay, to preach queer joy, I found viral fame after accidentally kicking Adele off a Zoom call, and my Tinder profile has been inactive for so long I’ve been deleted. Relationship goals? Who knows, but this is the closest I’ve come to gay marriage. I’m obsessed with Billy’s new music, mama’s “not here to patronise”. His record ‘Children’ cements Billy’s place as the queer parent we so desperately need. Talking on my podcast, Billy revealed, “I’ve never experienced pure unadulterated joy free from shame, until right now.”

Rising pop sensation Jordy needs your immediate attention, too. His debut album Mind Games is vulnerable, blissful, graceful, painful and powerfully relatable. I’ve waited so long for an album as catchy and real as this. ‘Long Distance’ is the time I literally flew all the way to Canada for a date with a guy who sent me home after cleverly realising I was running away from who I was, rather than learning to fall in love with myself. TMI? ‘Dressed Up In A T-Shirt’ is the kind of mood where simply putting on clothes to take the bins out feels overwhelming. ‘If He’s In Your Bed’ embodies a boy next door meets Dear Evan Hansen energy, aka cute with iconic mental health. Just my type. To be honest, every song is a bop. This album is gay deliverance. It’s the gay American teen movie you wished you were either in or watching growing up. The one where you fell down the stairs and Freddie Prince Jr caught you and then gave you a blowie in your dad’s shed. Too far? I can’t wait to hear how hard you stan for this album, tweet me @imjamesbarr. (Especially if you are Freddie Prince Jr.)
