Q Is car paint strong enough?

ABOUT a month ago, I cleared some bird droppings from the bonnet of my 2015 Toyota RAV4, but the droppings had etched the paintwork. Toyota says the damage is caused by external factors, but I think the paint is of insufficient quality. What do I do? Peter Campbell, E-mail

A IF you think the paint isn’t fit for purpose, we recommend organising an independent quality inspection. Visit www.iaea-online.org to find a local inspector who can determine both the quality and thickness of the paintwork.

Early wheel rust worries Q

THE wheels on the brand new Volkswagen Jetta I just purchased are starting to rust already. My dealer told me to use a special paint to get rid of the rust, but this doesn’t feel right to me. What should I do? Susan Jager, E-mail

A SPRAY-ON sealants and paints do a good job of preventing wheels from rusting, so your dealer is right. However, rust on new wheels is very uncommon, and we’d advise you to speak to your dealer about having them refurbished under warranty.

Passenger window is stuck Q

I WAS driving with the passenger side window down on my Fiat Punto, and when I pressed the button to close it, the window didn’t move. It’s still stuck. What is causing this, and what do I do? Edward Lawry, E-mail

A IT could be that the wiring loom in the door has broken, which would need a repair at your dealer. Alternatively, we’ve heard of instances of mud and debris blocking the window from moving, so check this first.
