Q Why is gearbox sluggish?

MY automatic 2012 Citroen C5 VTR E-HDI has started to lag when switching between first and second. The gearbox feels sluggish. It’s done around 96,000 miles. Any ideas why? Peter Follet, E-mail A ONE of the most common causes for automatic gearboxes feeling sluggish is either old or low levels of gearbox oil. Flick through the owner’s manual to see if you’ve missed an oil change interval. Check the oil levels in the gearbox, too, and look for any signs of leaks or loss of pressure, as this could also be to blame.

TPMS tripped by new tyre Q

I RECENTLY got a flat tyre on my 2015 Honda Jazz. I had the tyre replaced with a new one, but now the tyre pressure monitor system (TPMS) keeps warning me of low pressures. Why might this be happening? Iris Crivon, E-mail HONDA told us the TPMS works by measuring the circumference of each tyre. If the existing tyre on the same axle has less tread than the new one, it would explain why the system is warning of low pressures.

Winter car storage advice

I OWN three cars, two of which will be stored for winter. Apart from cleaning them and pumping up the tyres, what should I do to store them safely through the season? Keith Pavitt, E-mail A WE would recommend topping the cars up with fuel, and changing the oil. It’s also worth keeping the battery charged, and not engaging the handbrake. Instead invest in some tyre stoppers. Lastly, cover any gaps in the car with cloths to stop any bugs or insects from entering while it is off the road.
