QComeback on mileage?
THREE months ago I bought a used car with 7,000 miles on the clock from an independent garage. But after a lot of mechanical issues, I had the mileage history checked and found a 10,000-mile discrepancy. What can I do? Anita Evanson, E-mail
AIF the car was advertised with 7,000 miles, you’re entitled to a refund or a price reduction from the garage that sold it to you, according to the Consumer Rights Act. In the future, it’s advisable to check a car’s mileage history before the purchase to avoid any issues later.
QEvidence to contest ticket
LAST week I was sent a speeding ticket, but I would be really surprised if I was going above 30mph. Is there any way I can see the evidence before agreeing to pay the fine? Ewan Muir, E-mail
AMOST police forces will not release evidence unless the ticket is challenged, although it doesn’t hurt to ask. However, to challenge the penalty fully you would have to plead ‘not guilty’, and this means you would also risk a higher fine by having to go to court if the ruling goes against you.
QDoubling up on no-claims
I’M looking to buy an MPV as a second car for my family. I’ve already got insurance on my VW Golf, but am wondering if I can use my no-claims bonus on the second car, too? James King, E-mail
AUNFORTUNATELY not. No-claims discount can only be used against one insurance policy. Still, it’s not uncommon for some providers to offer an introductory discount on a second vehicle. Call your insurer and ask if it’s willing to do so. If not, shop around for the best deal.
