On the up: five more British rising stars to watch in 2018

George Russell

NORFOLK driver Russell won 2017’s GP3 Series, alongside testing for the Mercedes and Force India F1 teams. This year, the 20-year-old will battle Norris in F2, driving for French squad ART, while also serving as Mercedes’ F1 reserve driver.

Oliver Rowland

SHEFFIELD’S Rowland (25) has a busy season in prospect, contesting both the FIA World Endurance Championsh­ip in a Ginetta LMP1 car as well as being a young driver for Williams. He won the 2015 Formula Renault 3.5 Series.

Jack Aitken

BRITISH-KOREAN driver Aitken will be George Russell’s teammate at ART in Formula 2 this year, while also serving as Renault’s F1 test and reserve driver. The 22-year-old was Russell’s biggest rival in GP3 last season, finishing second.

Callum Ilott

ILOTT is part of the Ferrari Driver Academy and the 19-year-old from Cambridge will race for ART in the 2018 GP3 Series. He’s done three seasons of European Formula 3, achieving six wins and 10 poles on his way to fourth place in 2017.

Dan Ticktum

RED Bull-backed Ticktum clinched the Mclaren Autosport BRDC award at the end of 2017, having won the blue-riband Macau Grand Prix F3 event in November. For 2018, the 18-year-old is tackling European Formula 3.
