WANT to prevent the paint on your performance car or cherished classic from being damaged or losing its shine through wear and tear? British supercar tuning company Litchfield has added another option to wraps or clear film: its Paint Protection Spray (PPS).
The system has been developed to overcome the drawbacks of using wraps and film, which may protect, but do little for the finished look of the bodywork, and are not what you want on a luxury or prestige car.
Litchfield’s solution is a hi-tech, clear, plastic polymer coating that can be applied to any part of the vehicle’s bodywork, including steel, aluminium, composite and plastic surfaces.
It goes on in much the same way as a coat of lacquer. The car is stripped and areas not being treated are masked off, before PPS is applied to surfaces in a temperature-controlled heated booth.
Once dry, it can be treated the same as a lacquer finish and used with wax and polishes. The finish is also totally clear and, according to Litchfield, can’t be detected with the naked eye.
Not only is PPS super-tough and durable, its maker also says it’s self-healing, so marks and scratches on the treated areas can be made to disappear through simply reheating the coating.
The company says PPS can also be used to add a metallic finish to the car or even a totally new colour.
And if you get fed up with the look or just want a change, then PPS can simply be peeled off, leaving no residue.
Front-end protection costs from around £2,400, with the cost rising to £4,400 to treat the car’s full body.
