RIVALS What it needs to beat
TESLA MODEL S
Price from: £81,200
TESLA demonstrated that there was a huge appetite for fast electric saloons with the Model S. The sleek four-door has been refined and updated every year since 2012, and has a fiercely loyal fanbase. Performance on the move is exceptional, yet the Model S isn’t very engaging on more challenging roads. But the car’s real weak point is its overall quality; this will be an area where Porsche can take advantage as a brand known for its high standards.
JAGUAR I-PACE
Price from: £64,495
IS it a saloon, or a crossover? Whatever the answer, the I-Pace is currently the benchmark in the premium EV segment. We rate it so highly that it was crowned Auto Express Car of the Year in 2018. The I-Pace is one of the best cars in Jaguar’s history, blending exceptional handling, performance and luxury into a desirable package. The I-Pace has few flaws, but one common problem on all Jags is the rather slow and clunky infotainment system.
AUDI E-TRON
Price from: £71,560
GIVEN Audi’s dominance at the premium end of the market, it was a surprise to see it arrive so late with a full EV. While the e-tron trades performance for practicality, it’s still a compelling package. The focus here is on refinement and comfort; the e-tron is one of the quietest cars to drive on the road, with its air suspension ensuring a smooth and comfortable ride. The only issue for some will be that the e-tron simply feels too normal.
