Ford Maverick and Mercury Comet 1970-77

Marc Cranswick (Veloce Publishing, veloce.co.uk)

Price: £25 Rating:

IN a book for American-car fans, Cranswick tells the story of the “compact” Ford Maverick and Mercury Comet, which saw success both in the showroom and on the stock-car circuit. It’s well written and has tons of good photos, but production is adequate rather than glossy. It’s still a good read, though.

The Return of Breaking Law

Stephen Gold (Bath Publishing, bathpublishing.com)

Price: £25 Rating:

NOW in its second edition, this book gives excellent legal advice on a wide variety of topics. Not all of it is for motorists, but a large section in the middle has everything you could ask for on speeding fines, parking tickets and the like. It’s generally an entertaining and useful read, too, and judging by numerous fivestar reviews for the first edition, it has saved a lot of people a fair amount of cash.

MAXIMUM CAR

Available for: iOS, Android

Price: Free Rating:

THIS is a fun endless-racer game with pixel-style graphics. Drive along, building boost or missiles with drifts and near misses, and enjoy the genuinely funny commentary and cinematic crashes. It has simple controls and gameplay, and isn’t littered with ads or requests to pay real cash, and denying the odd permission request doesn’t seem to affect gameplay.

App of the week ViaMichelin

Available for: iOS, Android Price: Free Rating:

AN interesting route planner and navigation app with some clever features, such as petrol prices in Europe and real-time traffic info. But it doesn’t work via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. We’ll be watching to see if this improves.
