Tristan Shale-Hester Q Can I upgrade my F-Pace’s infotainment system?

- Tristan_Shale-Hester@autovia.co.uk

MY 2018 Jaguar F-Pace is a great car and I want to hang on to it for a while, especially with a shortage of new cars and high used prices. The only issue is the infotainment, which can be a pain. I know Jaguar has launched a newer system. Can I upgrade? Ian Baker, E-mail

A

WE’VE previously checked this point with Jaguar and, unfortunately, the firm’s latest Pivi Pro infotainment system is only available on cars from the 2021 model year or newer. There is no option to retrofit it to an existing car. You could consider upgrading to a newer F-Pace if the system you have is a bother, or perhaps you could look for aftermarket solutions.

Q Is there any way of getting around parking restrictions?

MY partner lives in an urban area where resident parking permit restrictions are in force on every street from early morning until late at night, even at weekends. Driving there isn’t currently an option because of this, while public transport links aren’t great either. Is there anything I can do?

IT’S likely that this is a busy area where the council feels parking restrictions are necessary in order for residents with cars to be able to park. Your partner may be able to apply for a permit on your behalf, or – as a resident who pays council tax – write to the local authority asking for restrictions to be eased.

Q Do I need to take out GAP insurance with my new car?

I’M in the process of buying a brand-new car for the first time and have been told about GAP insurance. I understand the potential benefits, but I don’t know if I’m likely to need it. Is it worth having?

A

GUARANTEED Asset Protection (GAP) insurance may provide considerable peace of mind for a new car owner. Accidents and thefts do happen and it could be a financial lifesaver in the event of a write-off. It makes most sense, however, when a car is leased/financed, because you won’t be left with a shortfall if you haven’t finished paying off the car. Don’t just go with the dealer, though – check online GAP quotes, which could well be cheaper.
