Alfa is lining up EV super-saloon rival for M5
Even base version of 5 Series rival will look sporty, but expect hot Quadrifoglio to have more aggressive, pumped-up body
ALFA Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato has revealed that the Italian firm will build a 1,000bhp Quadrifoglio version of its upcoming electric executive saloon to rival the BMW M5 and Mercedes-AMG E 63 S.
Imparato previously told Auto Express that the brand would build a large saloon. “I’m bringing to market in 2027 the E-segment car [executive saloon] that will feed North America, Europe and the Stellantis group, because the E-segment is not common in Stellantis,” he said. “The Quadrifoglio version will have around 1,000bhp with 800V architecture.”
Based on the regular car – previewed by our exclusive image – the Quadrifoglio will likely arrive at least a year later and is set to sit on the STLA Large platform. This offers motors of up to 442bhp, so for 1,000bhp,
the Quadrifoglio could use a tri-motor set-up, similar to that of the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore. STLA Large allows for battery sizes of up to 118kWh, with Imparato indicating a range of around 435 miles for the base model. Expect less for the super-saloon.
The Alfa exec also shed more light on the rest of the brand’s 5 Series-rivalling line-up. “The base model will have 350bhp and the core Veloce around 800bhp. Everything is locked in when it comes to design,” he told us. “We think around 18-minute recharging [for an 80 per cent top-up]. Alfa Romeo will be the first within Stellantis to unveil this new architecture.”
“To develop 1,000bhp, the Quadrifoglio could use a trimotor set-up, like the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore”
