Fresh editions and styling pack grow Defender line-up
LAND Rover is pushing ahead with the process of turning its Defender model line into a brand in its own right by launching this new Defender 130 V8 and a special Outbound edition. A ‘County’ pack has also been made available on the 110 model.
The range-topping Defender 130 now features an engine with a cylinder count to match the number of seats available. The 5.0-litre supercharged unit produces 493bhp and 610Nm, slightly down on the 518bhp and 625Nm of torque available in V8-powered 90 and 110 models. However, that’s still enough for a 5.4-second 0-62mph time, the same as the 110 V8.
By contrast, the new Outbound edition is powered by Land Rover’s six-cylinder D300 diesel engine and comes as a five-seater only, offering a mix of luxury inside and a high level of all-terrain capability.
As a result, the car features heated and cooled leather sports seats, fourzone climate control, an upgraded sound system, a head-up display, either 20 or 22-inch wheels, a matte finish for the bumpers and grille, plus a contrast finish to the car’s side vents. Land Rover says it’s the “ultimate expression of the Defender’s breadth of talents”.
As part of the Model Year 24 updates, Land Rover has also added a ‘County’ pack to the list of options that are available on the Defender 110, reviving a nameplate associated with the Defender Classic.
The brand says the exterior styling pack has been inspired by the original Defender County. It’s available on S, SE and HSE models, and features ‘County’ graphics on the doors and body sides, illuminated treadplates with more ‘County’ graphics, and 20-inch alloy wheels that are available with a choice of two finishes.
All MY24 Defender models are on sale now, with the 130 V8 starting from £116,845. The Defender Outbound costs £80,390, while the County pack is priced from £1,855.
