MOTORSPORT GREATS
NICO ROSBERG
Just as Graham Hill did between 1963 and 1965, Nico Rosberg claimed his own Monaco GP hat-trick between 2013 and 2015.
The son of 1983 Monaco winner Keke Rosberg made his F1 debut in 2006 for the Williams team, with which his father won the 1982 world title. Nico showed promise before joining the newly formed
Mercedes-amg squad in 2010, and over the next three years his reputation was enhanced by his pace against team-mate Michael
Schumacher. Childhood karting buddy Lewis Hamilton upped the game when he joined the team in 2013 to kick-start a tense rivalry
– and the end of an old friendship that deteriorated in the wake of on-track collisions. Against expectations and previous form, Rosberg beat Hamilton to a world title in 2016, but the effort took everything from him and he immediately retired from racing. Rosberg’s Monaco hat-trick is equal to the number achieved in the principality by Hamilton, Stirling Moss and Jackie Stewart, and his 23 victories overall is the same tally achieved by his father’s old rival Nelson Piquet.
