The chair of Indianapolis Motor Speedway from 1988-2016, Mari Hulman George, died last week. She was 83. The daughter of
Tony Hulman Jr, who saved IMS in 1945, she formed a successful Champ Car team and married one of its drivers, Elmer George. Their son Tony George founded the Indy Racing League, which grew into the current Indycar Series. A noted philanthropist, Hulman George oversaw an era that brought F1, NASCAR and Motogp to the Speedway.
