If you want a career in racing, you need to start racing. Competing is important because it makes you realise how much effort you have to put in. Always be receptive and collegiate. As Robin Herd used to say, ‘There’s no monopoly on good ideas’, so listen to everybody and judge for yourself. The old guys have made a lot of mistakes already so you can avoid doing the same by being open-minded and seeing if they have a valid point.
