Kvyat is Alphatauri saviour as Gasly falls back after hit

-

Alphatauri left the Styrian Grand Prix disappointed as it “expected more from our package”, according to technical director Jody Egginton, after updates had boosted the team early in the weekend.

The squad suspected damage from

Turn 1 contact with Daniel Ricciardo cost Pierre Gasly, who fell from seventh on the grid to 15th at the flag.

But Daniil Kvyat did well to make an unusual strategy of medium-hard tyres work, and he delivered the maximum result possible given the AT01’S pace deficit to the cars ahead.

“I did my job and I brought the car home to score one point, with much fewer retirements compared to last week, so I’m happy,”he said. “Everything was executed well and, while I was often under attack, I was able to defend my position and I could even open the gap with the ones behind me towards the end of the race.”
