Kent eyes World tin-top campaign

- ROB HANSFORD

TCR UK runner-up Lewis Kent is aiming to compete in the three rounds of the World Touring Car Cup later this season.

Kent, who has been a TCR UK regular since the category’s launch in 2018, is planning to contest the WTCR rounds at the Nurburgring, Motorland Aragon and Adria, if he can get the required budget in place.

“It’s a little bigger than what we normally do, but it’s a very high possibility,” said the 20-year-old of his WTCR plans. “So, the three rounds we’re looking at – it’s not

100% – but it’ll be Nurburgring, Aragon in Spain and then Adria in Italy as well.

“I’m not sure how the Nordschleife is going to go with my first ever time being there in a nice little powerful touring car, but we’re hoping that we can do it.”

Kent, who will be continuing in TCR UK this year and is hoping to go one step further and win the title in his Hyundai i30 N TCR, also confirmed that he will take part in three European TCR events.

“We’ve got three rounds booked in for TCR Europe anyway and the rest of TCR UK, so we have still got them, and if we can get WTCR that will be a bonus,” added Kent.

The Chelmsford-based driver kicked his 2020 season off by racing in the Enduroka series at Snetterton earlier this month, finished 13th as part of the Peak Performance Reviews squad.
